Mission Statement:
The Montessori Children's School provides strategic non-operational leadership in the support
of the school’s mission. The board makes long-term decisions, provides financial management and retains
a strong school leader to ensure an excellent Montessori education for current and future Montessori Children's School
students.
Montessori Children's School is governed by an unpaid self-perpetuating Board of Directors of
between 5 and 15 members. Their mission is by definition, to preserve and protect the long term health and well-being of the
institution. The board is not involved in the day-to-day running of school operations. The sole employee
of the Board of Directors is the School Directress/Director Head of School who is engaged in the day-to-day operation
of the School, to be its educational leader, and to carry out Board Policy.
Montessori Children's School’s
decision-making structure is not hierarchical but highly collaborative, with the Head of School acting simultaneously
as conductor, gardener, and helmsman to bring out the very best in the group. Collaborative problem solving is employed across
the school, with Faculty and staff broadly involved in decisions regarding program. Institutionally, instructionally, and
internally the Head of School and her goals and objectives are set and informed by both the Board's Strategic Plan and
the Principles of the Montessori Method.
